Past downtown, Tiburon Boulevard becomes Paradise Drive, a winding road that loops around the east side of the peninsula. Old Tiburon began as Lyford's Hygeia, and its stone tower still stands above Lyford Cove, looking over Raccoon Strait. A house on a slope can be one story at the street and three on the water side.

Belvedere's lagoon and island
Belvedere is entirely residential. Around Belvedere Lagoon, between Beach Road and San Rafael Avenue, many houses date from the 1950s and 1960s, and most lots face the water. That usually means wide sliding doors and glass near the waterline. On the island itself, Shingle Style and Mediterranean houses stand on steep lots built for the view.

Main Street and Ark Row
Downtown is small and sits on the waterfront. Ark Row, at the base of Corinthian Island, is a line of shops housed in 1890s houseboats that stayed put when the lagoon was filled in. These are small buildings with glass right at the sidewalk. Nearby, the former railroad yards became the Point Tiburon housing and commercial development.

Not every address is on a hillside. The Bel Aire and Belveron Gardens subdivisions were built on filled land, and The Cove shopping center serves that end of town. On a level lot nearly every pane can be reached by hand. Sprinklers are a common source of hard water spots, which etch glass when left to bake.
